Miss Representation

Last week we watched Miss Representation in Get Fit. This movie was very interesting and addressed many issues that we, as girls, go through our whole lives. This movie talked about all the different problems that ladies face and how women are perceived in society today. There were many things that this movie talked about that I didn't even realize I thought. For example, this movie made me realize that the first thing that anybody notices about someone that they are seeing for the first time is how they look. I think that this is horrible! I think that in this day and age we should know better than to judge someone based on their looks. This movie also made me realize how hard it is for female politicians.  It addressed how female politicians, especially in America, are barely taken seriously. Women have been very disrespected this way, such as men telling Hillary Clinton to 'iron my shirt'. This movie also talked about how Hollywood is effecting the way men and teenage boys think about women. Many Hollywood movies objectify women explicitly. The roles of females in movies in such as Transformers and many other superhero movies is simply just to appeal to teen age boys. Usually female leads in movie, no matter how independent there role may be are always less important than men. For example, in 'chick flicks' the female lead may be going after that one perfect and fighting someone else for his attention. No matter what females are never thought of as good as a man in Hollywood. This movie was very eye opening for me and I have actually started thinking more about what I see on TV. I would definitely recommend this movie to all my friends and family so that more people will actually know how women are perceived in society.
