What Get Fit Has Taught Me

The semester is almost over! This is a really stressful time of year for many students, including myself. Final  exams are just a few days away! But along with stressing out about finals, we also look back at how we have learnt and grown. When I think about how I am different now compared to the beginning of the semester, I see that I am a more confident, more mature person. I think that I am more mature, and more confident because of Get Fit. This class has taught me a lot. This class did not only teach me to work out, which is the focal point of every other 'fitness' class, but also taught me things about myself. Since this class was all girls I learnt to be comfortable in my own skin. This means that I was able to just let loose and not worry about looking stupid or feeling self conscious; things that I would have done if there had been boys around. It feels kind of stupid saying that, but it does make a difference!
Throughout the semester I was also able to participate in many interesting field trips.I loved going to Cartwheels and the Panorama School of Dance. These field trips focused on just having fun. Which I did, even though I am very uncoordinated. Another field trip I really enjoyed was Tae Kwon Do. This was a really empowering field trip, and I really enjoyed all the punching and kicking.
During Get Fit, another experience that I enjoyed a lot was watching Miss Representation. This documentary revealed so much to me. I learnt that as women we can be hard on ourselves and others. I think that this documentary should be watched by everyone, not just women! This documentary was a real eye opener for me and definitely helped to change the way that I think about myself and others! I also enjoyed the fact that I had the opportunity to watch this amazing documentary with my friends and classmates.
Along with all of these super amazing things, Get Fit has taught me to love fitness! I can't believe I said it, but it's true. Being in this class, I have realized that I love running around and being active. I love to see that my body is healthy and that feeling I get after a good work out is awesome! I have learnt many different and effective ways to be active. I got to try new ways of exercising like the Nike Fitness app. Get Fit has also helped me to make a lot of amazing friends that helped to motivate me throughout the semester. I feel that my friends had a big part in helping me achieve the fitness level that I have today.
After Get Fit is over, I plan on continuing to exercise and being healthy. I plan to exercise by going on runs with my mother and playing high energy games like Just Dance on the Wii. I also plan on going to the gym one day or joining a fitness club. Whatever I end up doing, I know that I'll enjoy it, because this semester I learnt how to have fun and be active at the same time. Thanks Ms. Phillips!

Miss Representation

Last week we watched Miss Representation in Get Fit. This movie was very interesting and addressed many issues that we, as girls, go through our whole lives. This movie talked about all the different problems that ladies face and how women are perceived in society today. There were many things that this movie talked about that I didn't even realize I thought. For example, this movie made me realize that the first thing that anybody notices about someone that they are seeing for the first time is how they look. I think that this is horrible! I think that in this day and age we should know better than to judge someone based on their looks. This movie also made me realize how hard it is for female politicians.  It addressed how female politicians, especially in America, are barely taken seriously. Women have been very disrespected this way, such as men telling Hillary Clinton to 'iron my shirt'. This movie also talked about how Hollywood is effecting the way men and teenage boys think about women. Many Hollywood movies objectify women explicitly. The roles of females in movies in such as Transformers and many other superhero movies is simply just to appeal to teen age boys. Usually female leads in movie, no matter how independent there role may be are always less important than men. For example, in 'chick flicks' the female lead may be going after that one perfect and fighting someone else for his attention. No matter what females are never thought of as good as a man in Hollywood. This movie was very eye opening for me and I have actually started thinking more about what I see on TV. I would definitely recommend this movie to all my friends and family so that more people will actually know how women are perceived in society.

What I am Proud of ...

I have had a wonderful experience in Get Fit so far. There are many things that I am proud of fitness wise. But the one thing that really stands out to me whenever I am in Get Fit is my ability to do more fitness activity. This means that I am able to run longer or do more cardio at one time. I feel more proud of my fitness abilities.
So far I have learned that fitness can be fun! Being in Get Fit I am surrounded by friends and girls that want the same thing as me, to be FIT! The energy and vibe of this class is amazing and everyone always has a great time participating in whatever activity we do.
A goal that I have for the end of this course is to like to do fitness on my own more. I would like to be able to want to go out to the gym or go out for a run on my own time, just because I want to be active and healthy, not just because I have to to pass this class!

Ice Skating

Last Monday our Get Fit class went ice skating. I was not able to go, however, because I had a test in Chemistry. I was really disappointed because I love ice skating. The girls that had gone had a really a great time. While they were ice skating the rest of the girls from Get Fit and I were in the library working on our homework from other classes.

My Progress in Get Fit

Being in Get Fit so far has been a wonderful experience. Everyday that I come to this class I am motivated to try my best because I want to be fit and healthy. There are many reasons why this class is amazing. Some things that I enjoy about this class are that everyone participates, I am getting more fit and the kids in the class really make this class fun. So far I have seen many improvements in my fitness. Some examples of this are that I do not get tired as easily as I used to and I am able to jog or run for longer. I feel that I am successful in this class because I am motivated to do better each day. Whenever I see that one of my friends is not participating much I always try to engage them in the activity. Some thing that I can improve on is being more of a leader in class (being more vocal, giving my ideas and opinions). This year I am working towards becoming more physically fit.

My Fitness

On Spetember 21 we had our first beep test and fitness testing in Get Fit. On the beep test I got up to level 7.4. I felt this was realy good for me because I wasn't active in summer at all. I was able to do the body bridge for one minute and thirty seconds and was also able to do 20 push up. My sit and reach level was five and I was able to complete the t-test in thirteen seconds. My max vertical reach was 34 cm and in thirty seconds I only got seven board touches. Overall I feel that I did very well but there is definitely room for improvement.

Getting Fit...

Get Fit is an amazing class to be a part of. This is the one PE class that I love being a part of. This probably has something to do with the fact that there are no boys in the class! Having no boys around really lets you do your best and helps you to not feel self conscious. So far we have been in Get Fit for two weeks and already we have done so much! We have done a variety of different fitness activities including the hill run, pond run and community run. Yesterday we also went to do the Grouse Grind. It wasn't my first time going up the mountain, so I knew exactly what I was getting into. This was the first I had to make it up the mountain within a set amount of time however. That was kind of stressful. But I was really proud of myself when I made it past half way with a lot of time left. And I felt even better when I finally made it up to the top! So far I am really excited for the rest of the semester and for all of the other fun field trips we are all going to be a part of!
